Sevillanas by 'El Pali'

Francisco de Asís Palacios Ortega, (Paco to his friends), better known as "El Pali", was born on May 22, 1928 in the central neighborhood of La Casa de la Moneda in Seville and died in the same Andalusian city on June 21, 1988 at the age of 60.

His nickname seems to have come from the fact that in his youth he was as thin as a "toothpick"; nothing like the image he projects in his album covers, since "El Pali" gained weight over time and had to compensate for his nearsightedness with glasses whose lenses were so thick they were known as "bottle bottoms." His weight and his glasses gave him that peculiar appearance by which the people of Seville remember him, as he passed away in 1988, being buried just as he had said in one of his sevillanas, "With my Spanish flag."

On June 4, 2003, the AA.VV.Torre del Oro, Centro Histórico Monumental y Barrio del Arenal, awarded him the title of: -Honorary Neighbor Posthumously-.

In his memory, on April 30, 2010, the journalist and writer Antonio Ortega published his biography, edited by Ediciones Absalón and titled – The Last Troubadour –.

On May 30, 2014, the day of the patron saint, King Saint Ferdinand was posthumously awarded the Gold Medal of Seville at the request of popular support with more than fifteen thousand signatures and nearly five hundred endorsements from personalities, public and private bodies, etc., and after nearly twenty-six years of requesting such a worthy distinction.
